Handy Tips for Using Our Library Catalog

The Library Catalog is where you'll find information on books, videos, masters theses, and journal and newspaper subscriptions at Prescott College as well as at all of the libraries in the Yavapai Library Network. We encourage our students to take full advantage of all available options, including creating book lists (i.e., a bibliography), requesting books from libraries in our network, and placing holds on books currently checked out. Here are some of the features to look for:

"MY ACCOUNT" allows you to check the due date on your books, check the status of a book on hold, and renew your books.  To view My Account you need to sign in using your 14-digit barcode number and your pin, which is usually the last four digits of your telephone number.

"SEARCH" drop down menu.  Search by words or phrase (keyword), author, or title.  Change this to a Series search; search for Prescott College - you'll find all of our masters theses.

"LIMIT SEARCH" allows you to narrow results by library, date, and format.  You can also choose to sort by relevance instead of new to old, which is the default.

"CATALOG RECORD", a tab that is visible when you click on a book title, allows you to view the subject terms for the book.  Click on a relevant subject to see what other books are available for that topic.

"ADD TO LIST." Click this button next to a search result to to save the information about that item.  Click Lists to print or e-mail to yourself, your advisor, etc. When you e-mail the list, the return e-mail address is "sirsi@catalog.yln.info" - keep in mind that the recipient may not know it's coming from you!  Note: You must be logged in to use this feature.

"PLACE HOLD" places a hold on the first available copy of a book, which may or may not be from Prescott College.  Note: Make sure you are signed in and "Prescott College" is chosen as the delivery location.  Your request will automatically be sent to the Circulation Desk, and the books will be mailed to you if you are an off-campus student.
