What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
ILL is the process of acquiring materials not owned by, or
available through, Prescott College. It is a library-to-library
service, i.e., your requests will come to PC from a lending
library, and we will forward the material(s) to you.
Who can use ILL?
ILL services are available to current students, faculty, and
staff. ILL requests are intended for academic use. Items that
must be returned to the lending library (books, videos, etc.)
are available to on-campus patrons only; off-campus students
should contact their local public library for these types
of materials.
How Long Does it Take for the Material to Arrive?
Journal articles average one week, and books average two-three
weeks.
What does it cost?
Most ILL materials are obtained without charge; however, this
is not always possible. If a maximum allowable fee is not
indicated on the ILL Request Form, and the item cannot be
obtained without charge, you will be notified of the cost,
and asked for approval before your request is ordered.
How Will I Get the Material?
All articles received in electronic format will be made available
to you electronically, with notification sent to your e-mail
account. For local patrons, books will be held at the Circulation
Desk and photocopies will be delivered to your campus mailbox.
For off-campus patrons, photocopies of articles or chapters
from books received in paper format will be scanned and e-mailed
to you. IMPORTANT: be sure to include current
contact information with each request.
What May I Request?
Materials not owned by Prescott College Library
- students residing in Yavapai County must also check the
Library Catalog to see if other libraries in the county
may have the material they need
- off-campus students may request journal articles and specific
chapters from books (copyright law restricts photocopies
to less than 10% of the total number of pages of a book).
Materials That Are Difficult To Borrow
- Textbooks
- Newly published books (within one year)
- Entire journal issues
- Reference books
- Videos, CDs, DVDs
- Items (books or articles) available to you online (always
check the catalog before sending an ILL request)
- Rare, fragile, or oversized books, original manuscripts,
and books located only in Special Collections
- Theses and Dissertations (particularly unpublished works)
Returning Materials, Renewing Materials, Overdue
Fines
Articles delivered via ILL are yours to keep. Due dates on
books are set by the lending library, and must be returned
on time. Renewals may be possible; requests to renew must
be made three days prior to the due date. Overdue fines are
$1 per day, per item, NO EXCEPTIONS. Patrons
are responsible for any charges imposed by the lending library
for materials that are late, lost, or damaged.
On-Campus Students: ILL
Book Request Form
Before making a request, check Serials
Solutions to see if the journal is available
either in print, or full-text in one of our journal databases
- Off campus students, if the article is not available in
a database, but we own the journal, fill out an Interlibrary
Loan Request Form, noting in the Comments box
that we own the journal. If you are an on-campus
student, please come in and photocopy the article.
- If we do not have the journal, send the complete citation
to Interlibrary
Loan (ill@prescott.edu)
